A modern-day story about finding fortune in the world of West Texas oil rigs
Watch writer/director Taylor Sheridan’s most popular movies and TV series on IMDb, sorted by user rating. A landman, at least one who works in the petroleum industry, will act as a middleman between the exploration companies and the landowners. Typically, a landman’s job is to negotiate and enter into contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Essentially, they manage the land and secure the leases so they can drill for oil and gas.

Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads and worker housing (man camps), oversee the assembly of excavation machinery, and the drilling of the well site itself, especially in remote locations. They are also part fixer, problem solver, and mediator. Referenced in CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). Billy Bob Thornton is welcome back to Texas since his “Friday Nights” in 2006.
Interesting people and storylines
The feel is Yellowstone and that’s welcome, series with some reality versus superheroes and fantasy. Based on the Permian Basin oilfield, great cast so far! We oilfield guys shake our heads at the inaccuracies of field life and explosions/blowouts. The technical errors in the first three episodes are embarrassing and your technical advisor got it all wrong in the blowout scene.A old valve sticks, the 24″ pipe wrench (installed upside down) is hammered near the top?
You need torque
100% wrong. No cheater pipe tried first? No hammer unless a brass hammer (ie no sparks)? No experienced oilfield downstream crew would have ever done this and turns the wrench back upside down hitting their own finger in the process?
