A modern-day story of making a fortune in the West Texas oil rig world
Check out the most popular movies and TV series by writer/director Taylor Sheridan on IMDb, ranked by user ratings.. A Landman, at least one of whom works in the petroleum industry, will act as an intermediary between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners who have mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Essentially, they manage the land and collect taxes so that they can drill for oil and gas.
The difference here seems to be geography
Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, housing for workers (man-camps), assemble drilling rigs, and drill wells, especially in remote locations. They are also part Fixer, Problem Solver, and Facilitator.. As mentioned in CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). It’s formula TV but now by a writer who will be remembered in a few decades, like Norman Lear.
Inappropriateness with the mother-daughter-father-family dynamic?
It’s another Western-set show, and it’s clever marketing paired with fine performances by high-quality actors. Accuracy issues with the oil industry? Apparently. Yes.
Larter is at his peak and looks great
That none of it plays out the same way in real life? That’s okay, it’s a dynamic production and a fun one to watch. Thornton was meant to be the character, I just read it written for him to start with. There are plenty of interesting things to like in all 10 episodes, aside from the one oddity listed.
If not, I wonder what the deal is there
I’ve seen all 5 that have aired so far, and if it’s not just me, I remember seeing her at least once in her pool for a brief moment. Hamm’s character isn’t very visible either, but it’s well played and he nails his character, but Moore hasn’t been allowed to add anything so far. Maybe it’s written that way and she’ll play a part in later episodes.
