I was immediately deeply involved in a classic masterpiece, a heist film, but quite different

That day I was quite hesitant to watch this film, thinking it was another dark film noir experiment. But I love actor Misel Maticevic and I had seen Thomas Arslan films, though not the first installment of this triptych, Im Schatten (In the Shadow), so I went to the cinema.

It grabbed me within the first 5 minutes, when there is only action, no dialogue

There is generally not much dialogue, but when it happens, it is perfect and direct and gives you background on the characters or moves the story forward. In a robbery gone wrong, violence is expected, and indeed it is present, but rather hinted at through the words and the results; The camera doesn’t fixate on it, so the imagination can fill in the blanks, which is all the more frightening.

Kudos to Mr

There’s a lot of driving, especially at night, through a rather bleak cityscape, quite a different aspect from stately Berlin. My only quibble: a little less driving would have been more.

Arslan for this wonderful piece of rigorous aesthetics in which there is not a single wrong frame

And kudos to the actors, who are so good that not a single face is forgotten even though it has appeared on screen for only two minutes (the watch buyer, the old friend who turns evil, the old friend who turns legitimate). I can’t wait to see the third part of the trilogy, which I read is in the works.
